Hybrid Tanning, CryoSlimming, CryoToning, CryoFacials, Spray Tans, LED Light Therapy, Cryotherapy
Light is essential to all living things on earth, and provides many physiological and psychological reasons why exposure to light is both desirable and necessary. People who are exposed to light will often feel happier and able to enjoy life to the fullest. Light exposure causes the brain to suppress the release of the hormone melatonin that acts as a depressant in the body. Exposure to light also produces various health benefits, such as the production of the very necessary Vitamin D in the prevention of bone diseases (such as osteoporosis) and in the improvement of symptoms of psoriasis. There’s a growing body of scientific evidence showing people actually require light exposure to function effectively.
Do I really need eyewear? Absolutely. Protective eyewear is the most important piece of tanning equipment besides using appropriate tanning lotion and professional tan extenders/moisturizers. Not using eyewear increases your chances of burning your cornea, which can lead to cataracts, loss of night vision, and more over time. Practice smart, safe tanning, and always wear protective eyewear when tanning.
What should I wear to tan?
Most people tan in the nude to avoid tan lines but feel free to wear a bathing suit. If you choose to wear a bathing suit, be sure there aren’t any metal clips or anything else that could potentially scratch the acrylic. Any skin that has never been exposed to ultraviolet light before will be more sensitive so be sure to keep that in mind as those parts must acquire a tan slowly. When you can’t see any tan lines on your body at all, it’s okay to expose that skin the same length of time as the rest of your body.
Ohio does not have any age restrictions on tanning; however, we will not allow anyone under the age of 13 to tan in our facility. If you are between the ages of 13 and 15 you must have a parent or legal guardians consent every session and they must be present during the duration of your tanning session. If you are 16 or 17 years old you must have your parent or legal guardian sign a consent form every 90 days. Your parents are not required to be present during your tanning sessions.
What are the causes of white spots?
There are several reasons as to what causes white spots. The first reason would be pressure points. They are seen on skin surfaces that are in contact with the bed, such as shoulder blades, the backs of calves and the lower back. You can avoid pressure points by shifting and moving positions. Start by lifting your back and legs periodically so that all skin receives oxygen and blood flow. Another cause is something called VITILIGO which is irregularly shaped white patches of skin that do not tan. It is caused by a condition that causes melanocyte cells in the affected area to degenerate and die off. A physician should be able to help reverse the effects. TINEA VERSICOLOR, or sunspots, is dandruff-like fungus that flakes off your scalp onto the upper body. This condition is very common and has nothing to do with cleanliness. Extra strength dandruff shampoo is often used to treat it.
How often should I tan?
This varies for everyone; however, a good rule of thumb is always to take a day off in between sessions. To establish a base tan you need to come more frequently the first few weeks. Once you have a tan, most people can maintain their color by coming 2-3 times per week or 1 time per week when using a high pressure bed
How many sessions will it take to see results?
Again this varies for everyone depending on your skin type and what type of bed you are using. Low level beds will take longer to see results than high pressure beds, but it can take anywhere from 1 session to 10 sessions depending on how dark you want to get.
Will I streak from a bronzer and will my hands get stained?
A lot of lotions have addressed the streaking problem, but if you apply a bronzer properly, you will not get streaks. You should put the lotion on in an even circular motion then wipe your hands off using the towel provided. You may also feel free to wash your hands before leaving the salon as an extra precaution
Can I use an indoor tanning lotion outside?
Yes and no. You may use tanning lotions outside, but keep in mind that indoor tanning lotions do not contain any SPF. Too much sun exposure could potentially allow you to get burnt. It is always a good idea to wear sun screen when exposing yourself to the sunlight outside, especially extended exposure.
Can I tan when I have a tattoo?
Yes you may tan with a tattoo. It is recommended to wait 2 weeks before tanning when you get a new tattoo. Even if the tattoo is old, it can fade from tanning. By using a special SPF tattoo stick or tanning lotion with tattoo protection in it you can help reduce the effects of fading and discoloring
Any concerns you may have you should consult your Dr. However, the answer is yes, you can tan when you are pregnant. Keep in mind there is an increased potential of becoming overheated, which can create a health risk to you and your unborn child. UV light does not reach the unborn baby as it does not travel beyond the top layers of the skin. If you are pregnant, ask about our VersaSpa Spray tan, which provides a great skin regime and excellent color, and is safe for both you and your unborn child.
High-pressure tanning, originally developed in Europe for phototherapy, uses lamps that emit UVA and UVB in different ratios compared to low-pressure beds. These lamps produce enough UVB to create melanin and a significant amount of UVA to oxidize it into a golden brown tan. Low-pressure units emit both UVA and UVB at low energy, resulting in a red-toned tan that requires more maintenance. High-pressure units generate UVC, UVB, and UVA, but a filtering system ensures only UVA is emitted, requiring fewer sessions to build and maintain a golden tan.
What's better, High-Pressure Tanning OR Low-and-Medium Pressure Tanning?
Studies have shown that a combination of low-or-medium pressure tanning and high-pressure tanning produce the best and fastest results. High-Pressure lamps are the fastest: a base tan can be established in as few as 3 visits compared to 10 or more visits to a low-pressure bed. Once you have your achieved color you do not require many sessions in order to keep your tan is it will not fade as quickly as low-pressure beds.
How do I keep my tan?
Moisturize! Moisturize! Oh and did we say moisturize? Healthy skin tans faster, darker, and retains a tan longer than unhealthy, dry skin. Drink plenty of water and make sure to keep your skin moisturized with a high quality professional tan extender/moisturizer. You should avoid lotions from big retail stores as they are designed for the general population. By using a professional tan extender/moisturizer are applying a lotion that was designed specifically for tanners by tanners. Your skin is constantly renewing itself. The dryer your skin is, the faster it wants to shed its top layers and bring new skin to the surface. You lose the top layers of your skin and you lose your tan. Dry layers on the surface of your skin blocks the UV rays from getting to the other layers in order to tan them. Even with using moisturizer you still need to maintain a tanning schedule in order to keep your tan. Keep in mind your skin is reproducing new skin cells all the time
Can I tan more than once per day?
Absolutely not! Not only is it against the rules but it can potentially be harmful to your skin. The FDA mandates you must wait at least 24 hours in between sessions. If you are looking to achieve a dark color as quickly as possible we would suggest doing the “Cocktail tanning.” This is where you have a tanning session in a UV bed/booth then immediately utilize the spray tan afterwards. UV light opens the pores on your skin which allows for the sunless solution to set in your pores deeper. The end result is a darker, longer lasting tan.
